Performs a variety of professional tax and accounting functions related to tax reporting, tax research, depreciation, depletion, and maintaining detailed tax records for various oil and gas related entities.
Work with Tax Consultant and staff on preparing data to be used to calculate depreciation and depletion for multiple tax returns.
Review detail data for depreciation and depletion and tie to trial balance. Work with staff to resolve discrepancies and direct related research.
Assists in preparing and review of Federal and State tax returns and related work papers.
Assists in preparing and review of Federal and State quarterly estimates for investors and tax withholding requirements.
Maintain “member unit” schedules for each entity.
Work directly with outside accounting firm (currently KPMG) to assist in finalizing tax returns for signature.
Oversee the preparation and issuance of 1099 forms.
Fields member phone call and inquiries and responds to same or refers inquiries to the Tax Consultant as needed. Review updated member information.
Assists Tax Consultant with assistance in research on various tax issues and related special projects.
Supervise Tax Accountant.
Education, Skills and Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Minimum ten years of professional tax and accounting experience
Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in the use of oil and gas accounting software
Must have experience and knowledge in the following areas:
Preparation of Federal and State Partnership Tax returns
Research Oil and Gas related tax issues
Oil and gas operations
Oil and gas division of interest and ownership
Generally accepted accounting principles
Oil and gas accounting procedures
Must be able to accomplish several assignments concurrently, efficiently managing a heavy workload, and effectively working with people at several different levels in the organization.
Sitting, visual and mental acuity, manual dexterity, hearing, speaking.
Ability to work at computer for long periods of time.
Works indoors in office environment. May occasionally visit field locations.
